Our destiny is revealed in stages however I believe there are definite ‘stand out’ moments that shift our lives into higher sociological and relational dimensions. It’s at these ‘stand out’ moments and junctures in time that sometimes we recognise the fact that we don’t feel ready or qualified and we don’t quite know how to fit. Even so… God places His plan and purpose on the table as a ‘benchmark’ for us to reach towards and leaves US to do the changing.
In Luke chapter 1 of the Bible the angel Gabriel appears to Zacharias and declares to him a ‘stand out’ moment which was to be the ushering in of a new season and he seemingly wasn’t ready for it – he even questioned the angel! The thing that was announced to him would be a ‘stand out’ moment in both his and his wife Elizabeth’s lives. It was something that they had prayed for for a long time, yet Zacharias responded with doubt.
Proverbs 13:12 – ‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick but when the desire comes it is a tree of life.’
When the thing that we have been hoping for doesn’t show up for a long time it can cause our hearts to become unwell and doubt can easily creep in. We become weary, discouraged & we can lack spiritual strength. Therefore when the very thing we’ve been praying for shows up ‘suddenly’ as a ‘stand out’ moment we respond in the wrong way… It’s at these times that God takes us quickly into a season of change… Depending on us this can take days, weeks, months & sometimes even years… Ouch!
I’ve discovered that God arrives ahead of time to prepare us for something that we’re not ready for! My father in law Paul Scanlon would often say to me, “God will not be your tailor.” What he was saying was that God will not shrink your destiny down to fit you, no, you need to grow in order to fit into your destiny!
I think we often try to shrink things down to ‘our fit’ because it feels uncomfortable but I’m praying we would learn to respond differently.
What I’m calling for in this short blog is for us to respond correctly to our ‘stand out’ moments. God is definitely bringing them into our lives. Maybe not in the way you thought it would look or even through the person you thought it would look like, but He IS bringing them.
I also pray that those who don’t respond in the right way will understand that God won’t remove the opportunity from you in a hasty fashion, He didn’t with Zacharias. God was patient & allowed him a season to respond in the right way.
So… get ready for your ‘stand out’ moments & remember when it arrives it will be a tree of life to you!
God bless you.
